Vintage Moroccan Wedding Blankets/ $500.00 - $900.00
These handmade, vintage Moroccan wedding blankets, or handiras, were purchased in Fes, Morocco but originate in the Middle Atlas mountains of Morocco and are all between 30 and 50 years old. Women of the Middle Atlas Berber villages create these wedding blankets for prospective young brides to use as personal coverings during the traditional Berber wedding procession and later during the generally cold winter months that are typical of this region. Like most Moroccan wedding blankets, these all feature shimmering sequins, or mouzouns, that are mainly used to ward off, or reflect, evil and misfortune in a marriage.
Please note, although they are called blankets, they are not very soft and are rarely used as an actual blanket. Their purpose in a home is mostly for decorative use and can be displayed in many ways.. as a decorative wall hanging, a rug or draped over a bed.
They all show minimal signs of age which adds to the character and the authenticity of their origins.
